Review: Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken One day Sydelle is playing in the countryside avoiding her mother with her best friend Henry and the next she is the apprentice to the wizard Wayland North. Unknown to her, she has a destiny he is not to willing to share. While North can direct magic, Sydelle can make it. That alone makes her both wanted and unwanted. A good adventure/love story. On the adventure side, it is your typical tale following the only people able to stop a war, but on the love story side it does not involve the normal, boy meets girl, woos girl, girl falls immediately in love...

Review: Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis Jacque’s life changes when the exchange student shows up and turns out to be her destined soul mate- and more. Little does she know- soul mate means a bit more to the Romanian exchange student and the wolf that he can become at will. Plot was very romance driven. It takes place over a matter of days and is more about the two main characters getting to know each other more than the little action that takes place. Main character of Jacque has a bit of a temper that is consistent throughout the story. Her and her smart-alec friends are typical of teenage girls....

Review: The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson Although she has been sheltered her whole life and has no idea why or what it’s purpose is, Elisa bears the god-stone. A great destiny awaits her if she can survive long enough. To do this, Elisa must change who she is inside and out. At first I did not like the protagonist- mainly because I could not picture her beyond the excessive descriptions of her weight being more than the other characters. It was almost ¼ of the way through the book before you even get another idea of what she looked like physically (i.e. hair color/length). For the...

Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix Sabriel is a normal girl in a seemingly semi normal society in this fantasy book, until she finds she must travel into the old kingdom, a world where death and free magic are corroding society, to save her father. Sabriel must accept her fate and become the one destined to help usher the dead on their journey to their end and the only good necromancer, the Abhorsen. The second two books should actually be one long book as the story line is continuous from one to the next. Sequel to Sabriel, the story returns after many years and follows Lirael, an outcast in...

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr Aislinn is able to see faeries but must ignore their constant harassment of humans. This becomes a problem when she becomes the target of the Summer King Keenan. He tries to woo her to his vision of power while she tries to retain her humanity. The question is who will win. This fast paced book kept the flow throughout the book. The first venture into following Keenan’s side of the story tripped me up, but it easily became part of the writing and into the flow to see the rest of the story progressing. I dont know why but I found myself wanting her to end up with Keenan...
