Depth! We finally get some more answers. While I felt like the first book wrapped things up very well and left the reader without any major questions, (beyond the cliffhanger) this book showed that there was so much left unsaid. I didn’t even question any of it in the first book, but here you get answers. It was nice to be filled in on Pagen’s background. That is a great author that can leave you feeling happy with a book but at the same time have so many unanswered questions that you didn’t even know there were. Nice writing. By the end I was left wondering if Leif is good or bad? I mean he is possessive and all, but so is Dank, but that seems to be okay. Is it okay for a guy to try to win you over when you like them but not when you don’t. I really didn’t feel Leif was a bad guy. I mean maybe he was a bit weird and all, but not bad. I’d say his only downfall was that he was a chicken. How could the prince of voodoo death be a chicken confuses me. Leif overall confuses me. Gotta love when a whole series is out and you can keep reading so I went right to the next one.
I completely liked that Dank was going to have to woo Pagen again– I liked the premise that Dank would have to win her over again since Pagen can’t remember the last year with Dank. That was a nice idea, and I liked how Dank didn’t even know how to do it. It was a very real world idea that without all the supernatural and events that happened, would they actually have fallen for each other in the first book? It makes the first book seem more magical that they just felt that way about each other. It is so fun to watch characters fall in love all over again. By the time it ended though I wanted to shake Pagen and say “what are you doing?” I am not going to spoil it, but it seemed to me that she did not really make a decision or even think through consequences. Don’t you wish sometimes you could go into a novel and shake the protag and get some answers!
